A Big Adventure in a Disappointing Plane
It was a long haul flight from Australia to Japan. As my mum and I joined the queue to board the plane, I gaped outside to see a gigantic airbus; it was the beautiful, R2-D2 plane. I got really exited, thinking that I might be lucky enough to be on the new Star Wars ANA plane. I must have been standing there looking for a while because the flight counter person beckoned me to the gate. I handed the lady my boarding pass, and ran down the tunnel all exited, to see that I was going to be boarding a regular, boring ANA 737. I reluctantly showed the flight attendant my boarding pass and made my way to my seat.
There was some sort of commotion with my seat, as there was a family who wanted to all sit together, but one of their seats they wanted was mine. The family kindly asked if i could move into one of their original seats, and I happily said yes, as the seat I would be getting was an aisle seat.
I got everything I needed from my bag, and then proceeded to hoist my bag into the overhead luggage compartment. I sat down with my laptop, passport, earphones and phone in hand, getting comfy for the long trip back.
From the moment I sat down, I smelled the ghastly smell of dried fish that someone had brought on the plane. If I had to explain the smell in one word, it would be “toxic”. Essentially, that was the main thing that then gave me a headache.
When the plane started to take off, the engine roar reverberated through the whole plane, and even through my earphones. Because of the bellowing engine, multiple babies started crying, and even more started crying when the ear pressure thing happened. The family that I had switched seats with had two younger boys, and they were pretty quiet during the fight, although they had a mini skirmish when one of them lost the game of mario kart they were playing together.
It took a while for the snacks and drinks to come to me, but when they finally came around, I ordered a “cappuccino” and a sandwich. It was a fried shrimp sandwich, but at that point I was so hungry I didn't need food, I needed nourishment. The coffee was the most disappointing “cappuccino” I have ever received. I don't know what I expected but I got a cup of coffee with no froth, but a layer of milk creamer on top.
